A Positive Start to 2026: How the New 3 Day Guarantee Supports Dayton Families
As we welcome the New Year, 2026 brings encouraging news for families across Australia. From January 5, 2026, the Australian Government introduced a new 3 Day Guarantee, a major update to the Child Care Subsidy (CCS) designed to make early learning more accessible, flexible, and affordable for all eligible families.
At Dayton Read 2 Grow Childcare, we are excited about what this change means for our community and the opportunities it creates for children to thrive in a high-quality early learning environment.
What Is the 3 Day Guarantee?
The 3 Day Guarantee ensures that all eligible families can access at least 3 days (72 hours) of subsidised childcare per fortnight, regardless of whether they meet the usual work, study, or activity requirements.
This is a significant shift from the previous system and reflects the government’s commitment to supporting families and giving every child the opportunity to benefit from early education.
What’s Changing?
Guaranteed Subsidised Care
Under the new rules, the Child Care Subsidy will guarantee a minimum of 72 hours of subsidised care per fortnight for all eligible families.
Activity Test Removed (for the first 72 hours)
The activity test will no longer apply to the first 72 hours of care each fortnight. This means families can access subsidised childcare even if their work or study arrangements change.
Who Is Included?
All families with a child eligible for the Child Care Subsidy are included in this update.
Additional Hours Still Available
Families who work or study more hours can still receive up to 100 hours of subsidised care per fortnight by meeting the activity requirements.
Extra Support for First Nations Families
Families with a First Nations child will automatically receive 100 hours of subsidised care per child each fortnight, offering greater support and consistency.
How This Helps Dayton Families
Lower Childcare Costs
These changes can significantly reduce out-of-pocket expenses, with families potentially saving up to $11,400 per year. This can make a meaningful difference to household budgets.
More Flexibility for Parents
The removal of the activity test for the first 72 hours provides greater freedom. Parents can look for work, increase hours, study, or manage family responsibilities without the stress of losing childcare access.
Improved Access to Early Learning
With guaranteed subsidised care, more children can attend early education consistently. At Dayton Read 2 Grow Childcare, we know how important these early years are for developing social skills, confidence, language, and a love of learning that supports a smooth transition to school.
